Jan began his insurance career in 1978 at the age of 18. Prior to starting the Livingston Insurance Agency, Inc. (LIA), Jan worked as a "captive agent" for a national insurance company and then in 1981 as an independent agent for a local insurance agency.
In 1991, Jan started Livingston Insurance Agency, Inc. from scratch and today LIA is a multi-million dollar locally owned and operated agency. All service work is handled directly from the Geneseo office by professional staff with a total combined experience of 60 + years.
In 1995 and 1996 respectively, Jan earned the prestigious insurance designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Underwriting (AU). Jan is a current member and Past President of the Rochester Chapter CPCU. He has held the positions of both Secretary and Treasurer of the Great Lakes User Group, formerly an association of insurance agencies organized to make the most of their agency automation systems. Jan and Livingston Insurance Agency have been proud members of Alpha Northeast since 2004 and Jan has held the positions of Vice President and President. Jan realizes continuous education is a critical factor to the success of his agency and encourages continuing education for all of his staff. Jan has completed numerous company sponsored education courses throughout his career, which have enhanced his complete understanding of the insurance mechanism. Jan has served on the Erie & Niagara Insurance Association Agent's Advisory Council.
Looking for a permanent home from which to operate Livingston Insurance Agency, Inc., Jan and his wife Jennifer purchased the old State Troopers' Barracks (4638 Genesee Street, Geneseo) in October 2006. This property location has more than adequate space for continued growth of LIA, excellent parking and provides a very professional office environment.
Jan is a past member of the Geneseo Kiwanis Club.
Jan enjoys boating in the 1000 Islands, camping, reading, watching basketball, playing raquetball and snowmobiling. Jan and Jennifer have lived in the Geneseo/Groveland area for over 40 years. |
